Cleaning Water and Safety
Water used to clean surfaces in contact with milk can be a source of bacteria. Water safety and results from analysis is a proAction program requirement on Canadian dairy farms. Water must be analyzed at least once a year and more frequently if requested by provincial authorities.
Testing the Herd's Drinking Water
Water quality and its physico-chemical properties can also impact your cows’ health and productivity. It is wise to test the water directly from the supply source and from the waterer at least once a year.
Sampling in Quebec
All water samples must be taken on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, refrigerated as soon as possible and shipped the same day so that they can be received at the laboratory within 24 hours. Our sampling kit includes a cooler and ice packs. You also need to ensure that samples are protected from freezing at all times.
Water is analyzed by an external laboratory certified by the Ministère du Développement durable, Environnement et Lutte contre les changements climatiques du Québec.
