Lactanet Operating Model Evolves

(November 6, 2026, Guelph, Ontario and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec)

Lactanet and its partners are announcing changes to their operating model to strengthen connections with regional dairy farmers while maintaining national collaboration and continuity of services for the Canadian dairy industry. Established in 2019 through a partnership among Canadian Dairy Network, CanWest DHI and Valacta – Lactanet brought together milk recording, genetic evaluation and herd management services across Canada.

A New Structure, Continued Collaboration

As part of this transition, Valacta will reintroduce its brand in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, where it will deliver milk recording, advisory and knowledge transfer services through its Centre of Expertise. Lactanet will continue to provide national genetic evaluation, dairy cattle traceability and herd management software services as well as milk recording services in Ontario and Western Canada. Although the two organizations will operate independently, they will maintain a strategic collaboration in the delivery of milk recording services across Canada.

Keeping Dairy Farmers at the Centre

As farmer-owned and farmer-governed organizations, Lactanet and Valacta remain committed to providing innovative herd management tools and services tailored to the industry’s needs. At the same time, the respective organizations will continue to explore industry collaboration opportunities to strengthen the Canadian dairy industry. Dairy farmers and industry partners across Canada will continue to receive the reliable service and support that they expect.
